Website design for the youth organisation Sveriges Blåbandsungdom

Creating a website for the youth organisation Sveriges Blåbandsungdom was both an honour and an inspiring assignment. The project came about through my sister, who at the time was chair of the organisation. However, it quickly became clear that this was more than a personal connection.

The project required strategic structure, an understanding of the target audience and a strong sense of the organisation’s purpose. A website for a national youth organisation needs to serve many functions, but the main focus here was to attract new members while remaining a reliable source of information for existing ones.

About the client

Sveriges Blåbandsungdom is a non profit children’s and youth organisation that encourages young people to take a stand for sobriety. With a vision of a society where everyone is equally valued and free from alcohol and other drugs, the organisation offers education, events and campaigns that empower young people in their choices.

The organisation operates nationwide in Sweden and works actively to create safety, community and a sense of belonging for young people.

A website for non profit youth activities

The need was clear. A new website for the youth organisation was essential to reach both new and existing members. When the organisation reached out, their previous website had stopped functioning entirely. While the situation was urgent, it also opened the door to creating something stronger and more aligned with their values.

I built a new WordPress website with focus on clear structure, accessible navigation and a visual expression that speaks to young audiences. Together, we ensured that the content was easy to understand while also inspiring engagement.

Designing a website for a youth organisation

I worked closely with the former operations manager and communications lead, with additional input from the chair of the organisation. Together, we defined the key goals of the website. The most important priorities were making information easy to find, simplifying membership sign ups and reinforcing the organisation’s visual identity.

We structured the content carefully and chose to work with two navigation menus. The primary menu focuses on recruitment and external communication. The secondary menu, which disappears on scroll, is aimed at existing members and local associations. This solution made it possible to balance different needs without compromising clarity.

A key part of the project was strengthening and clarifying the visual identity. The organisation already had a strong graphic profile, but it had not been used consistently. I helped translate the identity into a cohesive web experience so the entire website feels visually unified.

A structured and accessible website for a youth organisation

The result is a new website for a youth organisation where structure and communication work together. Visitors are guided clearly through the site, while the platform remains easy to update and adapt over time.

I continue to support the organisation with ongoing maintenance, updates and technical adjustments, as well as guidance around content and digital communication when needed. In addition, I have been able to advise the organisation on how to work more strategically with marketing, digital presence and visual communication.

Today, the website functions as a central hub for the organisation’s communication and serves as a strong example of how a website for a youth organisation can be both practical and engaging.

For us, Erika became something of a lifesaver. Our old website had broken down completely and we were ready to accept help from anyone just to get it fixed. Thankfully, we did not choose just anyone. We chose Erika, and the result is the most visually appealing and easy to navigate website we have ever had. We wholeheartedly recommend Erika Elinor.

Creating something that lasts beyond function

This project was meaningful on many levels. Contributing to an organisation that works to create safety and community for young people felt deeply rewarding. I especially appreciated working from an existing graphic identity while still having the freedom to interpret and strengthen it in a digital format.

Balancing different purposes and target groups required both precision and creativity. One of the most satisfying outcomes was seeing how the dual navigation solution improved the overall user experience. Small structural choices like this can make a significant difference in everyday use.
